I was recently enlightened that Stephen Czerkas, later an eminent amateur paleontologist and dinosaur expert, was the exective producer and special-effects supervisor for this sci-fi cheapie. At the time of its release it got mild acclaim only for pulling off its grandiouse premise on a miniscule budget. After a lame-looking explosion in outer space, survivors of the ship "Odyssey" crash on a prehistoric planet populated by Earth-style dinosaurs. The humans struggle to survive the beasts in Robinson-Crusoe fashion, even though they (the castaways) are a rather disagreeable bunch of stereotypes. It's a bit of a relief that the worst actors tend to be devoured first, and I must say that the ending surprised me a little bit. The stop-motion dinosaur effects are also fun, and inspire the thought that any B-grade filmmaker today might be a scientist of note tomorrow.
